Inner Child: A Show 60 Years in the Making - solo Show with Laura Tuokkola
Inner Child: A Show 60 Years in the Making
If my work resonates with the child within you, then I have accomplished what I set out to do.
My passion for sculpture began at a very young age. I vividly remember sitting at my father's feet as he carved delicate forms from small blocks of wood. With a bar of ivory soap and a tiny pocketknife in hand, I would mimic his movements, creating my miniature sculptures. These early works, along with other small treasures: a marble, a feather, a colorful stamp—were carefully placed into a cigar box that became my most cherished possession. I can still recall the scent of that box, and the sense of wonder it evoked.
In many ways, my art is a continued effort to recreate that feeling—an attempt to recapture the sense of joy, curiosity, and magic that filled those early years. As children, our hearts were unguarded, our imaginations unbound, and the world felt full of endless possibility. It is that spirit I strive to channel in my work. I hope to awaken a sense of nostalgia, wonder, and playfulness in those who experience my art—to offer a brief return to the purity and openness of childhood.
Today, I primarily work with clay and found objects, crafting original sculptures that invite smiles and spark memories. I also find deep satisfaction in painting, especially through the expressive, fluid nature of watercolors. My creative process is deeply intuitive and ever evolving. This journey—rooted in memory, emotion, and imagination—continues to unfold, and I look forward to discovering where it will lead next.

Radiance - A journey toward healing and empowerment f0r renewal
In an increasingly turbulent world—politically, socially, and spiritually—women need spaces where they can come together, heal, and rise. Women’s circles offer this sanctuary: a sacred space where vulnerability is embraced with compassion, healing is nurtured, and transformation begins.
For generations, women’s circles have served as essential refuges, providing a safe and supportive environment for sharing stories, fostering deep connections, and cultivating strength in sisterhood. During times of personal or collective struggle, these gatherings stand as a vital source of emotional support and spiritual nourishment.
What makes women’s circles particularly powerful is their intentionality. These gatherings are purposefully designed to ensure that every woman is seen, heard, and honored. In a world that frequently fosters isolation, women’s circles intentionally create spaces where connection flourishes. Here, women are able to express their deepest truths and witness the healing journeys of others—an experience that is both profound and transformative.

Linda Dempsey: Stories of Dance and motion through Driftwood
Exhibiting at This Gallery on 4th
Show runs from August 2, 2025, to September 3, 2025
Art has always been a constant in my life—a way of exploring and expressing the world around me. As a self-taught sculptor, I find my deepest connection through natural materials, especially those shaped by time and the elements.
Since the spring of 2016, my work has centered around driftwood—each piece collected from the shores of Lake Erie, where I live. I’m drawn to the lake’s edge, where the water offers up its gifts. The driftwood carries a story: once part of a living tree, it has broken away, tumbled through rivers and waves, and transformed on its journey to the shore. That transformation speaks to me deeply.
To me, trees symbolize strength, resilience, beauty, and life. I see those same qualities in the driftwood—weathered, enduring, and full of character. My role is to guide these pieces into their next evolution, listening to what they want to become. There’s a relationship in the process between the wood, myself, and the movement that emerges in form. Dance and motion often influence my work, creating a sense of flow and presence.
Showing this work at This Gallery on 4th is an opportunity to share these pieces in a space that values contemporary creativity and connection. My hope is that you find a moment of pause, peace, and resonance in these sculptures—that something within them feels both familiar and alive.

Opening Night - Black and White +1
Black & White plus One: A Call for Art Submissions 🖤🤍
Show runs from Saturday, June 21, 2025 through Wednesday, July 23, 2025
This June 2025, This Gallery on 4th St invites 2D artists from the NEO region to participate in our thought-provoking Black & White plus One art competition. This exhibition will explore the delicate balance between order and chaos—themes we all navigate daily in our lives.
The Challenge:
Your task is to create artwork that uses black and white (and every shade in between) along with One additional color of your choice. But here’s the catch—that color can’t take up more than 5% of your piece.
The subject matter should embody the concept of the everyday struggle between order and chaos, a reflection of the ebb and flow of life’s balance. Whether you approach this theme through realism, surrealism, or abstraction, we encourage you to push your creativity and vision to its limits.
Eligibility:
Open to all artists in the NEO region—regardless of location or experience level. We welcome both representational and abstract works, as long as they adhere to the thematic concept. This is your opportunity to make a statement using contrast, composition, and creativity—without the use of traditional color.
Submission Details:
Artwork Format: PNG or JPEG only
Deadline: Submit by June 14, 2025
Let the tension of light and dark, the play of form and structure, guide you as you explore the push and pull between order and chaos. We look forward to seeing how you create your masterpiece within the bounds of Black & White plus One.

De’tritus Magnifique
Artist: Bill Govan
The artist's inaugural exhibition marks a significant milestone in their career, offering a platform to present their passion and creative vision to the public for the first time. This debut showcase serves as both a personal and professional statement, where the artist introduces their unique perspective and artistic voice. It is an opportunity to engage with the audience, demonstrate technical skill, and convey the emotional depth that drives their work. By stepping into the spotlight, the artist not only shares their creations but also takes an important step in establishing their presence within the art world, highlighting their commitment to both their craft and personal identity.
Please read a bit more about the artist:
I receive a substantial amount of joy and fulfillment using materials that have been deemed landfill worthy; materials lost or tossed to the streets, sidewalks, parking lots, and commercial property crevices. Elevating the pedestrian and preserving the unexceptional are main themes throughout the work I do. Reality affords many opportunities to admire beauty, yet as humans, with our hierarchies and biologically tapered awareness, we tend to ignore a vast majority of what Reality has to offer. My Practice aims to argue that value manifests from within and it’s completely up to us, the individuals, to decide what is worthy of our attention.
